St. Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church
Emmaus, Pennsylvania

From our humble beginnings in 1984 we began St. Paul Orthodox Mission in Emmaus. Our goal was clear. We wished to establish a multi-ethnic Antiochian parish that would hear the Gospel and the Liturgy spoken in English but would continue to respect and recognize our own diverse cultures. In January, 1987 we were granted the status of a mission church by His Eminence Metropolitan Phillip. Many meetings later in January, 1989 our Constitution was approved by His Eminence Metropolitan Phillip.

During those early learning years, we had to sever emotional bonds that were tied to our previous parishes and learn how to establish our own identity. The familiarity that we knew was suddenly changed. Each person was necessary for the Mission to succeed. Many members wore several hats as they pitched in to work for the Glory of God. We were on a sort of honeymoon.

We held many activities along the way including field trips to St. Tikhon's Seminary, the Church School was organized, hosted the Emmaus Ministerium Association, Spring Bake Sales at Lehigh Valley Mall, Fall Bazaars, Spaghetti Dinners, traveled to Lenten Retreats, and held yearly Anniversary brunches. All the while we were learning.

In January, 1992 we celebrated our 5th Anniversary with His Grace Bishop Antoun. What a proud day for all of us. We realized that our small building was limiting our growth so in July. 1992 we began a search for property to build a new church. The road was long and filled with many frustrations. Khourie Helen always kept the faith by saying, "We will end up where the Lord wishes us to be." And so we have.

Settlement for purchase of the present building was in July 1996, and renovations began almost immediately. We quickly discovered that even though we had many benefactors of time, money, and labor being donated that we would not be able to complete all of the renovations immediately. The new Church building and commencement of services was in March 1997 just prior to Easter.

Just recently, in October 2005, the Consecration of our church was preformed by His Grace Bishop Thomas.
